ELI Talks – Video Screening and Moderated Discussion

Sunday, October 25, 2020 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon

Screening of two videotaped ELI mini-lectures:

Rabbi Scott Perlo:
The Essence of Ritual
Why is it that rituals that were alive for our ancestors oftentimes don’t resonate with us? Rabbi Scott Perlo looks at the relationship between feeling, form, and content in our rituals today, and what they mean for that which we so lovingly call “tradition.”

Pamela Schuller:
I am Here; Hear Me Bark: Comedy, Disability, and the Inclusive Synagogue
Reflecting on her experiences growing up with Tourette’s Syndrome, Pamela Schuller examines the pitfalls and successes she’s encountered in the Jewish community’s attempts at inclusion. Blending a humorous improvisational process with Jewish tradition, Schuller outlines a new framework for the future of inclusion in the Jewish community.

Each video is approximately 15 minutes in length. We will have a brief discussion following each video. To Connect Online:
