 Sisterhood

Women's LeagueSisterhood of Beth David, an Affiliate of International Women's League for Conservative Judaism, is a vibrant part of the Beth David community. We are dedicated to enriching the observance and joy of Judaism in the Synagogue and homes of our members.

Our members are involved in ongoing Jewish education through the Adult Education Program at Beth David. Those members who have graduated the B'nai Mitzvah class and become active Torah and Haftorah readers readily volunteer their time to help other community members become proficient in liturgy and trope. We actively participate in holiday education in the religious school and run a Shabbat program for the preschool aged children of the community. At our Sisterhood Shabbat we always try to add something special to the service, whether it be a different tune for a prayer or something new in the drosh.

In addition to the supporting the Synagogue Adult Education Program, Sisterhood has sponsored education programs that range from crafts to Torah. With one of our programs last year, "An Introduction to the Imahot in Conservative Liturgy," we began a six-month process of education and debate, which culminated with the addition of the Imahot to the Congregation Beth David Shabbat services.

Our membership crosses a broad spectrum from working professionals to housewives, young mothers to grandmothers. Sisterhood of Beth David is the place for Jewish women in the community to come together to share prayer, education, laughter and tears with members supporting each other and the Shul. Our social activities have included Dances, Plays, Comedy Sports nights and concerts.

Celebrate Mother’s Day in a Very Special Way!

Beth David Sisterhood is participating in a “Mother’s Day Flower Project” sponsored by Jewish Women International. For the past ten years, JWI has sent bouquets of flowers on Mother’s Day to over 150 battered women’s shelters nationwide. This project helps raise funds for ongoing programs that help victims of domestic violence. You can make a $25 donation to JWI in honor of your mother, daughter, sister, or special friend, and JWI will send a Mother’s Day card to your honoree. Cards will be mailed to arrive on Mother’s Day, May 11th.

Beth David Sisterhood will receive $5 from Jewish Women International for every $25 donation. This is a delightful and thoughtful way to remember the special women in your life and help two worthwhile organizations at the same time. Please send your donation, made payable to “Jewish Women International,” to the Beth David Office, marked “Mother’s Day Flower Project.” For more info, call Dori Jaroslow at 650-329-1217 x 387. You may also place your order online at www.jwi.org/fp.
