  1. (38:1-30) Events in Judah’s life after the selling of Joseph, particularly the story of Tamar, Judah’s Canaanite daughter-in-law, whom he promised successively to each of his three sons as each older one died without children. Frustrated, Tamar disguised herself as a prostitute and offered herself to Judah. When she became pregnant, she produced the tokens of identity Judah had left with her, and he confessed.
