Chasing Portraits

Tuesday, November 1st, 7:30 – 9:00 p.m.

Elizabeth Rynecki was inspired to research her family’s history by her grandfather’s journal describing life in Warsaw under Nazi occupation, and by artwork in her family home painted by her great-grandfather, Moshe Rynecki, who illustrated the everyday life of Polish Jews in the 1920s and 1930s. Her book, Chasing Portraits: A Great-Granddaughter’s Quest for Her Lost Art Legacy, tells of one man’s art and one woman’s quest to reclaim his legacy from the ashes of history.

About the author: Elizabeth Rynecki has a MA degree in Rhetoric and Speech Communication. She designed a website featuring her great-grandfather’s art in 1999, and published Chasing Portraits in September 2016. Elizabeth lives in Oakland with her family.
